Jeudi 13 mars 2025, dans le cadre de notre cycle de séminaires externes, nous avons le plaisir d'accueillir Marco Mantovani, Professeur associé à l'Université de Milan.

Ses recherches portent sur :

• l’économie expérimentale ;
• la théorie des jeux ;
• la microéconomie ;
• l’économie des réseaux. 

Marco Mantovani travaille actuellement sur les marchés prédictifs, les liens entre marchés et morale, les symboles et la coopération, le vote stratégique, les transactions taboues et les préférences pour les maux.

Titre de sa présentation : Experimenting with Digital Currency.

Résumé : Central banks are considering the possibility to issue currencies that are entirely digital (CBDC). We present a theory-driven experiment to test for the potential advantages of this new form of money vis-a-vis its traditional counterpart, cash. In theory, CBDC is superior to cash. Indeed, CBDC allows for policies that are conditional on the flows and holdings of CBDC accounts. These policies can alleviate the limits to transactions that are due to the misallocation of money in a cash economy. The experimental results show that, taking some precaution, it is possible to reap the efficiency gains of this innovation. However, they also highlight a potential drawback: the conditional policy we implement depresses the out-of-equilibrium value of CBDC, which may limit the acceptance of CBDC in transactions, inducing welfare losses if the economy is sufficiently far from the efficient equilibrium.
