Research in the innovation area focuses both on the innovation strategies of firms in Research and Development-intensive sectors, and on the public policies that can influence these strategies. The research carried out in this area involves both industrial economics and public economics.
The first objective of our research is to study the determinants of innovation, firms' innovation strategies, and the contractualization of these innovations. The specificity of knowledge-based sectors lies in the need for companies to develop relationships with upstream and downstream players in the sector, through more or less formal innovation networks. This kind of relationship analysis is at the heart of the axis' research.
A second objective focuses on the impact of public policies on innovation. This concerns regulatory policies (intellectual property rights, marketing authorization and labelling policies) and STI policies (scientific, technological and innovation policies). On the latter point, our research focuses on the effects of STI policy instruments on firms' incentives and capacities to innovate. The analysis of partnership dynamics and knowledge transfer between public research organizations and companies is at the heart of our research in this area.
