Empirical analysis of wage and employment gaps under sample selection using counterfactual distributions

Séminaire interne GAEL

Abstract. Based on recent methods for the analysis of counterfactual distributions, and quantile regression with endogenous sample selection we propose an empirical analysis of wage and employment gaps in france according to gender and ethnic origin. We use survey data(from the French Labor Force Survey), and considers non random sample selection into employment. Our analysis of the wage gap focus on differences in distribution which is important for the analysis of inequality using measures such as Gini coefficients or Lorenz curves. Finally the combination of methods for counterfactual analysis with quantile re- gression corrected for sample selection is not standard and we propose valid methods for inference.
