Workshop on Economics of Bioenergy

Workshop

From October 9, 2025 to October 10, 2025

The Grenoble Applied Economics Laboratory and the Energy and Prosperity Chair are organizing a workshop on the "Economics of Bioenergy" on Thursday, October 9, and Friday, October 10, 2025, on the campus of Université Grenoble Alpes, France.

Bioenergy is considered a key component of the energy transition by public decision-makers as well as by our research institutions, as it contributes to decarbonizing the energy mix.
However, bioenergy remains relatively underexplored in French economic research, particularly with regard to agricultural and forestry resources. By establishing a platform for exchange between experts from various disciplines--primarily economists, but also agronomists, energy engineers, geographers, and others--the workshop aims to revive interest and stimulate renewed discussion around this topic in the French research landscape.

The workshop will offer an opportunity to share current research results and promote dialogue across different methodological and thematic approaches (e.g., theoretical models, industrial organization, etc.). We are planning approximately 10 presentations over the two half-days, covering issues such as land use allocation, trade-offs in forest-wood product uses (energy, construction, industry), and crop choices for energy production. The focus will be on a micro- and meso-level approach (local and territorial scales), though broader global considerations will not be excluded. The workshop will conclude with a discussion session on future research directions and potential collaborations.

This event is supported by the Grenoble INP, Graduate schools of Engineering and Management and Grenoble Alpes Métropole, that we would like to thank.
