About us
The Grenoble Applied Economics Laboratory (GAEL) is a joint research unit (UMR CNRS 5313 / UMR INRAE 1215) between CNRS, INRAE, Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA) and Grenoble INP, Graduate schools of Engineering and Management - UGA.
GAEL's research focuses on sustainable innovation and consumption, particularly in the energy and agro-industrial sectors. The laboratory's key methodologies are micro-economic modeling (industrial economics, behavioral economics), experimental economics, econometrics, modeling applied to certain sectors such as energy, and qualitative analysis based on case studies.
Consumption Axis
The aim of this line of research is to observe, understand and model decision-making and behavior using experimental economics methods. These laboratory-based observations lead us to move away from the standard rationality-based models of microeconomics.
Energy Axis
The energy team (formerly EDDEN for Economie du Développement Durable et de l'ENergie) inherited a long tradition of research in energy economics in Grenoble, the team ensures a high level of research activity.
Innovation Axis
Research in the innovation area focuses both on the innovation strategies of firms in Research and Development-intensive sectors, and on the public policies that can influence these strategies. The research carried out in this area involves both industrial economics and public economics.
