Titre de sa présentation : Eliciting thresholds for interdependent behavior.

Résumé : We introduce an incentive-compatible method for measuring interdependent behavior. The method elicits the proportion of others who must take an action before an individual follows suit. We use it in a large, stratified sample of the U.S. population to elicit such thresholds for publicly supporting affirmative action. A substantial majority of individuals exhibits interdependent behavior. There exist significant disparities in threshold distributions across Asian, Black, Hispanic and White, men and women, which in line with the predictions derived from a simple, rational-choice model are explained by differences in perceived benefits, conformity and anticipated social sanctions. We discuss how the method can help predict societal outcomes and in designing policies
